“We, therefore, by and with the advice of Our Privy Council, have thought fit to issue this, Our Royal Proclamation, and we do ordain, declare, and command that on and after the First day of July, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty-seven, the Provinces of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, shall form and be One Dominion, under the name of CANADA”.
Ladies and gentlemen, to all the people of Canada, to our veterans, active servicemen and women, reservists and families of the Canadian Armed Forces, to all the immediate families, relatives, children and grandchildren of the deceased veterans, fallen service personnel and wounded personnel of the Canadian Armed Forces, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the civil uniformed security and civil defense services of the Dominion, to all our workers, farmers and intellectuals, to our youth and personnel serving in youth uniformed and cadet organizations and all our athletes, coaches, judges, sports trainers and sports officials witih Canada, and to all our sports fans, to all our workers of culture, music, traditional arts and the theatrical arts, radio, television, digital media and social media, cinema, heavy and light industry, agriculture, business, tourism and the press, and to all our people of the free world, especially our overseas Canadians:
We have entered the next 150 years of Canada’s history, and the 49 more years until the Biccentennial of 2067. Once again, I send you all my greetings to the people of Canada as you all celebrate the 151st year since the founding of this great nation which took effect as a consequence of the Constitution Act of 1867, which officially created the Dominion of Canada on the basis of the British provinces of Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Today, the millions of Canadians in its 3 territories and 11 provinces celebrate as one nation yet another year of its existence, of the sacrifice of the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces, the Royal Canadian Mountied Police, the police and fire services of this great country. On this great day of the birthday of Canada, its people also recall the memories of the people who brought honour and fame to the nation in the arts, culture, film, television and sports and the triumphs it has achieved all over the world.
Canada has indeed grown up as a nation built upon the efforts of the millions of its people and those who came before them. Its economy is one of the best in the Americas, and its cities are listed in tourist websites as some of the best tourist-friendly cities, not to mention the role placed by some of them in our modern day culture as filiming sites for movies and television series. As one nation, it celebrates today its birthday with deep rejoicing and is united as one in hoping for a better future for all its people, for more triumphs in all fields and for a stronger free nation helped by the efforts of all serving in the uniformed services for the Sovereign, country and people.
As the people of Canada and Canadians worldwide mark the 151st year of Canadian nationhood I send my greetings to all the people of Canada as they celebrate as one this historic national holiday, the anniversary of the formation of the Canadian nation – the independent True North, strong and free, today and in the years to come, as it marches on towards the biccentennial in 2067.
Long live the 151st year anniversary of the Canadian Nation! And to all the people of Canada, a very Happy Canada Day!
Vive La Canadienne! Je Me Souviens!
