Ladies and gentlemen, to the people of the United States of America, people of our free world, active and reserve enlisted personnel, warrant officers, officers, generals, admirals, commissioners and chiefs of the armed forces, the public security services and civil defense services, our military, public security and civil defense service veterans and families of fallen and wounded personnel, our sportsmen and women, coaches and sports officials, the leadership, members, veterans and constituent organizations of the International Golf Federation, and the entire leadership, members, athletes, coaches and supporters of the United States Golf Association and its member organizations:

I write this message to you to inform all of you concerned on the irrevocable loss of one of golf’s biggest stars, the late Arnold Palmer, yesterday, September 25, 2016, at an old age of 87.

As we mourn the passing of one of the greatest golfers of our time, we remember his many years of profound service to his sport and to his country the United States of America, and the many victories he achieved in this sport. We will never ever forget his long career in golf and the legacy he left behind. We will always remember his life of profound service to the sporting world.

His loss will be felt in a big way by all of us, even as we have just celebrated golf’s big Olympic debut in Rio last month with great joy.

May the name of this great man who served as one of the world’s veteran athletes with many decades of sporting service rendered without fail to the American people be remembered for generations to come.

John Ramos
